Christian is the visionary. You know, that crazy guy who never gets tired of trying new things? 14 years in software. 7 years in ministry. Gathered a flock. Founded a non-profit. Along the way he planted hops and started brewing.
In 2010 he partnered with Big Sky Brewing to create All Souls Ale. In 2013 he went all in - sold his house in Montana, moved to Austin, and began working on a business plan. The rest is history. Or soon will be. Lazarus Brewing Co. is his brainchild.
Christian loves IPAs, Americanos, fly fishing, and fine English tobacco (one of his sons is the Yeti).
Marilyn is a saint (or should be, anyway, for putting up with Christian). A Queen of hospitality, she's been roasting her own coffee for over 10 years. She's also a master barista who's spent 7 years learning how to run a highly successful coffee shop.
She is the calm behind the storm. She is the one who makes things work.
She is also crazy for the Mountains, a fan of New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, passionate about Ethiopian coffees. And her homemade apple pie is to die for. (Did we mention she ought to be a saint?)
Marcus is the curator. A Certified Cicerone®, he's spent a decade learning about beer, and the last 4 years applying that knowledge as the GM at Hopfields (one of the best curated tap selections in Austin). Marcus has the finest palette of anyone we've ever met.
The funny thing is, we've known him since he was 10. (Yep, he's from Montana, too). So when we started looking for a partner to help create the perfect neighborhood brewery, Marcus was a natural choice.
He likes coffee, beer, and trekking in the Himalayas.
Matt is the brewmaster. Growing up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania, Matt learned the value of hard work and quality ingredients. He studied Classics at Penn State, then Brewing in the UK. He's a beer geek par excellence. But it's not just head knowledge.
Over the past five years, Matt has helped Victory Brewing expand its reputation as one of the best craft breweries in America. As brewing manager for Victory, he's helped guide everything from recipe design to R&D to building a 200-barrel brewhouse. With distribution in 35 states and nine countries, we think he's been pretty successful.
But now Matt gets to do something new - build his own program from the ground up, to help Lazarus make amazing beers for friends and neighbors just like you.
Matt is super excited to be here. And we're thrilled to have have him.
When it comes to making tacos, Azrriel is el hombre ("the man"). We met him shortly after we got here, working in one of Austin's best food trucks. One thing led to another, and a friendship blossomed. He is hardworking. Trusty. Loyal.
And now he's helping us create some of the most authentic street Mex you have ever tasted. Prepare to be amazed.
Azrriel loves football, fútball, and chile de árbol. Raised in East Austin, he's as authentic as it gets.
So where do you fit into the story: Friend? Patron? Patron saint?
Lazarus is a neighborhood brewery for people in East Austin. So drop in and say hi, and let us know what you think. We're looking forward to getting to know you!
